University of Oregon Erb Memorial Union (EMU)

Located in the center of campus, EMU is a prominent gathering space for the campus community. The goal of the project was to expand the center to provide programs, services, and spaces that engage student user groups and support the university’s overall academic mission. The completed renovation showcases UO’s commitment to sustainability at all levels while creating an inviting central hearth for the campus. The remodeling of the building and outdoor spaces vastly improved the formerly non-compliant and circuitous circulation system. Over 10’ of elevation change is accommodated within a system of free-flowing sloped walks that nest around the new amphitheater’s circular shape. As the prime consultant, CM delivered the comprehensive design of all plazas, sitting areas, performance stages, and the landscape’s entire network of walks.
