Cameron McCarthy has delivered numerous planning and design projects for the Bend La-Pine School District, including Mountain View High School (track), the New Bend High School, and most notably, Caldera High School. CM led the development of the Caldera High School 80-acre site, including the location of buildings, parking, courtyards, plazas, and pathways. The 50 acres of site development integrated the athletic program components into a steeply sloping ground comprised of natural brush landscapes, basalt outcroppings, native Ponderosa Pine, and 600-year-old Juniper trees. Preserving landscapes while building large, relatively flat athletic spaces was a tricky but rewarding design challenge. The athletic complex included a 400-meter synthetic track, baseball and softball fields, synthetic turf football/soccer/lacrosse field, field events, stadium and portable bleacher seating, sports field lighting, and scoreboards.
