5th Street Public Market Alley

Eugene’s 5th Street Market is a main attraction in downtown Eugene, with its high-end hotel and numerous eateries and shopping destinations. In 2020, the market underwent significant expansion, introducing three new structures, including a luxurious seven-story hotel and a versatile three-story building catering to office and retail spaces. Cameron McCarthy initially created concepts that showed the transformation of the Pearl Street section into a ‘shared’ street. The goal of the project was to create an outdoor room that connects both sides of Pearl into a unifying, safe, attractive, and functional environment. A key element of the concept identified the ideal at-grade mid-crossing locations that connected the Inn at the Fifth and 5th Street Market with the new Market Street, Apartments, Retail, and Hotel buildings. These concepts showed vehicular travel, bicycle travel, and pedestrian pathways. Cameron McCarthy incorporated many design elements, including paving patterns, landscapes, and site furnishings.
