UO Papé Field Receives Award

University of Oregon’s Papé Field has been honored with the Field Division Silver Medal of the American Sports Builder Association’s 2015 Distinguished Sports Facility Awards. Papé Field is home to the UO women’s lacrosse and women’s soccer teams. Cameron McCarthy provided comprehensive landscape architectural design for both the high performance athletic field and the complex’s site improvements.

Mountain View High School Honors Eaton

Bend’s Mountain View High School dedicated its new track and field faciltiy to Olympic Champion and Cougar alum, Ashton Eaton, on Wednesday, May 13. A crowd of excited community members were addressed by Ashton Eaton and his mother before Ashton took the first ceremonial lap with a group of local youth.

Cameron McCarthy provided design services, construction documentation, and construction administration for the facility.

OSU Beavers Claim Victory in Historic Dual Meet

Congratulations to the OSU Women’s Track & Field team for capturing an outstanding 95-64 win against Utah in the school’s first scored dual meet since 1988. The team’s stellar weekend performance was set to a scene of sunshine and a standing-room-only crowd in OSU’s own Whyte Track & Field Complex.

Cameron McCarthy was hired as prime consultant in 2007 to develop a concept plan, feasibility study, cost estimate and fund-raising images for the Whyte complex. After a very successful fund-raising campaign, our firm and DLR Group were selected in 2010 to prepare a formal design for two phases of implementation. Phase one features a 9-lane 400 meter track and accommodations for all field events (two of each) and a synthetic turf infield. The infield is also utilized by the varsity soccer teams as a practice facility. These improvements were completed in 2012. Phase Two is currently under design.

The City of Eugene has announced that they will proceed with the purchase of 4j property that is home of historic Civic Stadium, and confirmed that Eugene Civic Alliance (ECA) has met their $4.1 million funding target to, soon after, purchase a majority of the real estate from the City. The proposed improvements planned for the redeveloped property include: a new Kidsports fieldhouse, synthetic turf play field, restored historic grandstand, new spectator seating, public open space and path system, and other site improvements. Cameron McCarthy has contributed planning, conceptual design, and illustration services as a member of the ECA that formed in 2014. Prior to supporting ECA’s mission, the firm contributed additional design and illustration services to fundraising and proposal efforts led by Friends of Civic Stadium.

SOU Raiders Win NAIA Football Title

Congratulations to the Southern Oregon University (SOU) Raiders on their first ever NAIA football championship title! The Raiders defeated Marian College 55-31 on December 19^th in Daytona Beach, Florida.

Cameron McCarthy designed Raider Stadium’s new synthetic turf field, which was completed for the 2014 season. The renovated facility also serves as SOU’s home competition venue for varsity soccer and track & field teams.

UO Football Practice Facility Wins ASBA Award

The American Sports Builders Association (ASBA) has announced the winners of its 2014 sport facilities awards, including the Cameron McCarthy designed UO Football Practice and Training Facility. The project received a Distinguished Facility award in the Multi-Field Facility category.

The ASBA is a national organization for designers and builders who specialize in athletic facilities. Awards are presented each year to facilities which best exemplify excellence in design and craftsmanship.
