Civic Park is the transformation of a former minor league baseball park into a 10-acre community recreation and entertainment venue that emphasizes youth and family activities. Cameron McCarthy has provided gift-in-kind servicee to the two non-profits, Friends of Civic Stadium (FOCS) and Eugene Civic Alliance (ECA), who have been actively involved with efforts to acquire the property for community use. In 2011 and 2012, Cameron McCarthy donated site planning design services and two perspective view illustrations to FOCS (partially funded by a grant from the Historic Preservation League of Oregon). For ECA, Cameron McCarthy has donated gift-in-kind labor toward ongoing site design and consultation for the production of the illustrated site plan and perspective drawings utilized in a feverish outreach and fundraising campaign. After completing a successful $4.5 million fundraising effort, ECA acquired the property in 2015. This outcome was made possible through the collective effort of many community volunteers passionately donating their time, expertise, and financial resources.
The land purchase by ECA has set the stage for a formal design process that will be initiated in 2016, with a capital fundraising campaign to follow. Improvements envisioned include the Kidsports Fieldhouse (featuring multiple indoor sports courts), a new high performance multi-purpose playfield that will showcase professional soccer matches and accommodate many other uses, a stadium structure that will welcome thousands of spectators, a public pocket park and open space.
