Education and Professional Expertise

Shelby joined Cameron McCarthy in 2019 after graduating from The University of Oregon with a master’s degree in Landscape Architecture. She received her undergraduate degree in Media Arts and Animation from the Art Institute of California – Silicon Valley. The marriage between media and landscape design has been a driving force in Shelby’s career path, from a young age she held an interest in fine arts and history and views the design of our physical environment as an extension of that creative spirit.

During her time at U of O Shelby’s work and interests highlighted sustainable, pedestrian-friendly redevelopment and housing projects, connection to place and the cultural landscape and urban design. Her thesis project centered around in her hometown of San Jose, CA, and focused on ‘Developing Sustainable Accessory Dwelling Unit (ADU) Guidelines’ for the city. Looking at both the municipal and residential scale implications of ADU development, and the barriers in place for residents hoping to develop an ADU, the project aimed to reduce barriers and encourage sustainable methods for environmental and financial savings. Shelby was the Branding Director for the 25th annual HOPES Conference, a multidisciplinary student run sustainability and design conference held by the Ecological Design Center. That experience helped to further her skills in team management, graphic design and branding.

Prior to her time at U of O, Shelby worked as a 3D QA and touch-up artist for Apple maps and transitioned to 3D modeling for flight simulators where she honed her skills in Autodesk Maya and Photoshop. Utilizing her skills in digital and hand media as well as landscape design, Shelby enjoys creating illustrative concepts that show the beauty of sustainable solutions.

Personal

When Shelby isn’t working, she can be found curled up with her dog and a good book or out exploring the beauty of the Pacific Northwest. Her latest escapades include crabbing, waterfall hikes and wildflower meadows. Her interest in culture and exploration has sparked a love for travel where new landscapes and delicious street food fuel each new adventure.
