Nellie Lapina

Landscape Architect

Nellie started her career with Cameron McCarthy in 2010, and is actively in pursuit of Landscape Architect licensure.   As an associate, Lapina provides technical design and drafting assistance to the company’s project Landscape Architects.   While most extensively involved with a majority of athletic field projects, she has also touched a variety of other project types noted below.

Education & Professional Expertise

Nellie earned a Bachelor of Landscape Architecture from Washington State University.  As a student she received multiple academic awards and honors, was a teacher’s assistant, active in intramural sports, member of the university snowboard club and a volunteer youth soccer coach.  Her interest in parks and recreation design culminated in her capstone project, which was the design of a sports park site that integrated many sustainable design practices, including an emphasis on stormwater management and recycled water systems.

Prior to graduating from Washington State University, Lapina spent time studying in Italy, where she gained a strong appreciation for connecting cultural and historical landscapes.  Prior to Cameron McCarthy, she was employed by a landscape design/build company in Spokane, Washington.

Notable projects of the firm where Nellie has had substantial involvement include OSU’s Whyte Track & Field, UO’s Pape Field (Lacrosse and Soccer Complex), UO’s Football Practice Facility (Kilkenny and Wilcox Fields), Park Improvements at the Jasper-Natron Site of the Springfield School District, Serenity Lane Coburg Campus, and Ninkasi Brewery Expansion.

She possesses a high level of proficiency with CAD software, and is equally diligent with the production of exceptional technical drawings.  She has progressively increased her design responsibility with each project undertaken, and exhibits a particular affinity for planting and irrigation aspects for all projects and the design of children’s play areas when they are included.

Nellie was born and raised in Buffalo, Wyoming where her family owns and operates a residential and commercial construction and land development company.  This business offered her several years of seasonal employment and tangible exposure to a wide variety of building and site construction, with perspectives from within the office on the management side and in the field on the implementation side.

She has spent time visiting many different places around the world and enjoys the ability to connect with different cultures.  When she is not traveling she can be found taking advantage of the beautiful nearby coastal beaches, hiking with her dogs, playing rec league sports and spending time in her garden.
