Leanne joined Cameron McCarthy in 2014. As an Associate, she provides technical design and drafting assistance to the firm’s landscape architects. Her professional design involvement to date spans a diverse array of public and private sector projects.
Education and Professional Expertise
Leanne received a Bachelor of Landscape Architecture degree from the University of Oregon in 2012, summa cum laude. During her time at UO she received multiple academic awards and was active in the ASLA student chapter, Eugene’s School Garden Project and the University’s Urban Farm/Garden programs. While a student she studied natural earth building techniques, and learned and built with experts in the field of earthen architecture in Mexico, Texas, and Oregon. She also worked for a professional design/build landscape contractor who focused on residential and small scale commercial projects in the local area.
Her passions for working in the dirt extend to gardening and urban agriculture. Leanne is a Master Gardener in-training, having completed the OSU Lane County Extension program coursework and now fulfilling the volunteer hours component to achieve the full credential. Stemming from her interests in issues of food security and social justice, Leanne’s Comprehensive Project at UO entailed the phased redesign of a local homeless shelter campus to accommodate a broader demographic range, including men, women, women with children and adolescents. The design integrated indoor and outdoor therapeutic spaces for each group, and provided occupational opportunities through the operation of the campus’ urban farm program.
After graduation, Leanne was employed as a Landscape Designer in Houston, Texas for more than a year. While there, she provided design and technical support on several large-scale planned community developments. Since arriving at Cameron McCarthy, she has provided key assistance on several prominent commissions including LCC Center Building, Newport Aquatic Center, McKenzie Willamette Hospital, Beaverton Middle School, and Hyatt Place at Oakway Center.
Leanne was born and grew up in Alvin, Texas. She now calls the Pacific Northwest home, but makes sure everybody knows “y’all” is grammatically correct and gender inclusive. She is a natural designer as well as a plant lover. She has an affinity for one plant in particular, Camellia sinensis (the tea plant), and is actively pursuing certification as a tea sommelier. In her spare time, she enjoys creating art using textiles, metal, and hand media. Her love of the great outdoors keeps her traveling, hiking, and exploring with her friends.
